GRINER REPS TALK TO TMZ AFTER GUILTY PLEA, SHE HOPES FOR ‘NO SEVERE SENTENCE’ AS THEY EXPECT TRIAL TO ‘WRAP UP’ IN AUGUST

Sharing is caring!

Earlier we reported that after “Reverend” Al Sharpton was starting to take matters into his own hands, WNBA player Brittney Griner pleaded guilty in Russia on drug charges.

It was reported that Joe Biden sent Griner a note after she reminded him who she voted for in the 2020 election in a letter she sent to the American president. Perhaps that note that she received back from Biden influenced her guilty plea, as Russia has a very high conviction rate, and a guilty plea may get her a less severe penalty.

Brittney Griner Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges in Russian Court as Al Sharpton Plans a Visit

Griner’s reps have talked to TMZ with the latest update. Griner is hoping to receive no severe sentence for the trial that is expected to wrap up in August. The reps said:

“[The guilty plea] was her decision informed by discussion with her legal defense team in Russia,” Griner’s legal team said. “Brittney sets an example of being brave. She decided to take full responsibility for her actions as she knows that she is a role model for many people.”

“Considering the nature of her case, the insignificant amount of the substance and BG’s personality and history of positive contributions to global and Russian sport, the defense hopes that the plea will be considered by the court as a mitigating factor and there will be no severe sentence.”

Griner pleaded guilty to drug smuggling and possession charges in a Russian court. Sharpton says he is going to help using his reverend status, as we reported:

Griner’s politics are controversial indeed. We hope she does get a fair trial and gets back to the USA safely. Perhaps she may have a more patriotic view of the country if she does. Read the TMZ report in full here.
