Hours After Russia Invades Ukraine, Florida-Based Vets Quietly Launch Rescue Mission to Evacuate Americans
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is in full swing and world leaders are racing to react. Perhaps one of the most concerning issues involves the safety of innocent citizens inside Ukrainian borders.
This includes American citizens in the country, who are most certainly in serious danger. Thousands of U.S. residents are still in Ukraine, which is currently under heavy siege by the Russian military.
This is where a group of Florida-based military veterans come into play
Ukraine Project Dynamo began in Tampa — it’s a nonprofit organization designed specifically to counter the Russian offensive from thousands of miles away.
This isn’t a military operation that involves returning fire, but it’s just as important. Project Dynamo is all about bringing Americans home safely, no matter what it takes.
The group’s work is even more critical because President Biden has confirmed the U.S. won’t be sending troops to Ukraine. This means any stranded Americans can’t count on help from incoming soldiers.
So at this point, those U.S. citizens have little recourse. They can only hope that they’ll either survive the Russian bombardment, or they’ll be safely evacuated.

‘Project Dynamo is currently conducting the very first rescue of Americans, approximately 28 that we’re actively working as we speak,’ Project Dynamo spokesman James Judge said.
The group is comprised of volunteers with decades of special operations experience, so they already have a background in these matters.
Project Dynamo actually anticipated a possible armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, because they started making plans in January. They established a presence in Kyiv and started preparing for evacuation.
This is a complicated process, especially now that fighting has broken out.
So far, though, the group of retired heroes is doing everything they can. For example, when a woman from New Mexico traveled to Ukraine for her father’s funeral, she got stuck in the country.
She contacted Project Dynamo for help and they’re “in the process” of getting her out as this is written.

Other countries are also striving to get their citizens out, but it’s proving difficult because after the assault began Ukraine stopped civilian flights to and from the country.
This is why the work done by Project Dynamo is so vastly important. There’s so much uncertainty and chaos surrounding war, and innocent bystanders are often stuck in extremely difficult situations.
Volunteers who are spending their days to help those people deserve our respect — and the hope that they’re very successful in evacuating our stranded citizens.
