Trump Sues NY Attorney General Letitia James: “Her mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen”

Former President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization just fired back against New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump sued James in federal court seeking to stop or limit her office’s investigation into his business.

Trump filed the lawsuit in federal court in Syracuse, New York. The suit claimes James violated Trump’s rights under the U.S. Constitution by pursuing a politically motivated investigation.

The lawsuit also seeks to enjoin James’ involvement in any civil or criminal actions against Trump or his company. “Her mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent,” the lawsuit says.

“By filing this lawsuit, we intend to not only hold her accountable for her blatant constitutional violations but to stop her bitter crusade to punish her political opponent in its tracks,” Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, said.

Habba added: “Letitia James targets President Trump with a callous disregard for the ethical and moral obligations she swore to abide by when she became Attorney General.

“She has short changed the state by commencing this partisan investigation and has forever tarnished the sanctity of her office.

James wants to question Trump in early January but Trump sees that as a perjury trap as even though James’ probe is a civil probe, that could change quickly.

From ABC:

New York’s attorney general is seeking former President Donald Trump’s testimony in an ongoing civil investigation into his business practices, a person familiar with the matter said.

Attorney General Letitia James’ office has requested that Trump sit for a deposition on Jan. 7, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.

The news was first reported by The Washington Post.

Trump’s representatives did not immediately response to requests for comment. A message seeking comment was left with Trump’s lawyer, Ronald Fischetti. James’ office declined to comment.

A spokesperson for the Manhattan district attorney’s office, which is conducting a parallel criminal investigation into Trump’s business dealings, said Thursday that the interview request “is not part of the criminal investigation.”
