George W Bush Breaks Silence, Trashes GOP: “Isolationist, protectionist and to a certain extent nativist”

Former President George W. Bush trashed the Republican Party as “isolationist, protectionist and nativist,” in a new interview today. Bush has been reluctant to criticize the GOP he once led in public so one wonders what has changed.

“I would describe it as isolationist, protectionist, and to a certain extent nativist. It’s not exactly my vision,” Bush told NBC’s “Today” show. “But, you know, I’m just an old guy they put out to pasture.”

“I think if the emphasis is integrity and decency and trying to work to get problems solved, I think the person has a shot,” he said about 2024.

“It did make me sick. I felt ill. And I just couldn’t believe it,” Bush said of what happened on January 6.

“What’s really troubling is how much misinformation there is and the capacity of people to spread all kinds of untruth,” he said. 

“And I don’t know what we’re going to do about that.”

“It’s a beautiful country we have. And yet, it’s not beautiful when we condemn and call people names and scare people about immigration,” he said. 

“It’s an easy issue to frighten some of the electorate. And I’m trying to have a different kind of voice.”

Bush warned Biden on Afghanistan saying he was “deeply concerned about the plight of women and girls” and was afraid they were “going to have real trouble with the Taliban.”

“I think the administration hopes that the girls are going to be okay through diplomacy. We’ll find out,” Bush said.

 “All I know is the Taliban, when they had their run of the place, they were brutal. Brutal.”

Former President George W. Bush says he’s avoided the temptation to criticize his predecessors so he doesn’t rock the boat with his friendship with Michelle Obama.

“I feel like you’ve made it a point not to criticize your predecessors,” Hoda Kotb told Bush during a Tuesday interview on NBC’s “Today.”

“That’s true,” the 43rd president replied.

Asked if he had ever been tempted, the 74-year-old former commander in chief said, “I guess I have been, sure.”

“Anyone in particular? Nah, I think I’m fine,” Bush continued without naming any of his successors.

“If I did, Michelle Obama might not be my friend,” he quipped with a smile.
