New Leak Sinks Susan Rice, Claims She Creates An ‘Abusive and Dehumanizing’ Workplace
White House domestic policy adviser Susan Rice is on the wrong end of a series of leaks that claim she creates an abusive workplace full of vitriol. And that she regularly berates other members of President Joe Biden’s staff even dressing down one of Biden’s cabinet members HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra.
The American Prospect, a progressive media outlet, dropped the hammer on Rice claiming:
“Conversations with current and former White House officials suggest that little has changed in the intervening years. Rice regularly excoriates her colleagues, creating an “abusive and dehumanizing environment” according to one source, who spoke to The American Prospect on the condition of anonymity.
“The vitriol of the Rice-controlled workplace is something of an open secret, with previous reports filed about Department of Health and Human Services staff being yelled at in meeting after meeting.
“The Prospect has learned previously unreported details that Rice also berated HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, himself the son of immigrants, alleging incompetence at addressing the processing of migrants crossing the U.S. southern border. At one point during a meeting, where President Biden expressed his displeasure at Becerra’s efforts at HHS, Rice wrote a note to a colleague that said, ‘Don’t help him,” referring to Becerra.’”
Ironically the leaks are coming at Rice from the left because they think she has been too tough on immigration by pushing for Title 42 and demanding all seats on the deportation planes be full.
“The problem is that Democrats are hiding under their desk with a ’90s strategy of triangulation. But you’re never going to out-enforce Republicans.” one source told the Prospect about Rice’s failed efforts to control immigration.
Later in the report, the reasons for the leak became more clear. Joe Biden is considering Susan Rice to be his next chief of staff. Can you imagine…
The report said, “This all comes as Rice is reported to be under consideration to succeed Ron Klain as Biden’s next chief of staff.”
Joe Biden said when he took office:
“I am not joking when I say this, if you are ever working with me and I hear you treat another colleague with disrespect talk down to someone, I promise you I will fire you on the spot.
“On the spot.
“No ifs, ands or buts. Everybody everybody is entitled to be treated with decency and dignity. That’s been missing in a big way the last four years.”
We shall see if he was full of it or meant it very soon.
Reuters reported on Rice’s troubles earlier:
Rice has “pressed consistently” for HHS to speed up its releases of children to make space in children’s shelters, said another of the three officials familiar with the matter. HHS efforts on that front have been inadequate, the person said, but are now improving.
HHS defenders say the criticism in meeting after meeting where HHS “is getting yelled at” is taking a toll on the staff.
In support of Rice’s approach, one of the three officials said the government was in “crisis response mode” and that Rice was simply “trying to marshal people into action.”
“It’s like appearing before a really tough judge in a courtroom,” the official said of Rice. “You don’t go in with excuses, you go in with plans.”
