Senate Dems Warn Joe Biden Not To End Trump’s Title 42: “There is still not an adequate plan or sufficient coordination to end Title 42 without further straining our law enforcement, border communities

Senate Democrats are breaking with President Joe Biden and coming out against his plan to end former President Donald Trump’s immigration rule to deal with out-of-control immigration following reports that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will end the pandemic-era Title 42 policy on May 23.

Title 42 was enacted by Trump and allows for the instant expulsion of migrants and the ability to withhold hearing their asylum claims because of the pandemic which was deemed a public health emergency.

Republican Senator John Cornyn warned Biden of a human ‘tsunami’ of illegal border crossings if Biden ends Title 42. But it was concern from Dem Senators that should have Biden thinning long and hard before he unleashes another debacle on an unsuspecting public.

“I think they should reconsider,” Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said. “I sent a letter, I’m against removing Title 42.”

New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassen said: “I am concerned that there is not a sufficient plan in place to address the steep increase in border crossings that could result from this reported decision.

“This preemptive repeal threatens border security at a time when the administration should be focused on strengthening it,.”

Senator Kyrsten Sinema said:

‘We spoke with the @DHSgov Secretary about the administration’s Title 42 contingency plans following our letter to the President urging him not to end Title 42 without a comprehensive plan to support border communities,.

“’Ending Title 42 without a comprehensive plan in place puts at risk the health and safety of migrants and Arizona communities.”

“We’ll keep working with Arizona local leaders, DHS agents and officers, and community organizations serving on the front lines of the migrant crisis to hold the Administration accountable to ensure we secure the border, keep Arizona communities safe, and ensure the fair and humane treatment of migrants.”

Arizona Senator Mark Kelly said:

“From day one, I have worked to ensure a secure, humane, and orderly process at our southern border.

“There is still not an adequate plan or sufficient coordination to end Title 42 without further straining our law enforcement, border communities, and nonprofits providing humanitarian assistance to migrants.

“We’ll continue to push the Biden administration for the resources and support Arizona needs amid this crisis at our southern border.”
