Walgreens And Retail Groups Rebuke AOC: “The Congresswoman has no idea what she is talking about”
Walgreens issued a rebuke of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) after the New York liberal tried to downplay the smash and grab theft that is hitting retail stores from Rodeo Drive to a suburb near you.
AOC said, “a lot of these allegations of organized retail theft are not actually panning out. I believe it’s a Walgreens in California cited it, but the data didn’t back it up.”
Walgreens wasn’t buying it and told the Washington Times that “organized retail crime is one of the top challenges facing” the company but the threat “has evolved beyond shoplifting and petty theft to the sale of stolen and counterfeit goods online.”
Walgreens also told the Times that San Francisco stores have security costs that are now 46 times greater than the average Walgreens store.
Rachel Michelin, president of the California Retailers Association, said:
“No one has seen this before.
“This level of violence has taken it to a whole new level.”
Jason Brewer, Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) senior executive vice president of communications, said:
“Respectfully, the Congresswoman has no idea what she is talking about.
“Both the data and stack of video evidence makes fairly clear that this is a growing problem in need of solutions.
“If she is not concerned with organized theft and increasingly violent attacks on retail employees, she should just say that.”
