Man Questioned By Police For WI Crash Is Career Criminal Out On Bail Named Darrell Brooks: Report
The man being questioned after a red SUV plowed through a Christmas parade injuring dozens and killing at least five people has been identified as Darrell E. Brooks Jr. He is a Milwaukee resident with a criminal history going back to 1999. His rap sheet includes numerous violent felonies.
He also has a few pending cases. His most recent court appearance came on Nov. 5 for reckless endangerment, battery, domestic abuse, resisting arrest, and bail jumping. He was out on $1,000 bail.
Jodi Singsime, a witness, told Fox News the driver “just came barreling right in front of us, right where we were standing. And then he kept going so we saw and heard everything.”
Singsime is a nurse. She described what happened when she saw “a little boy on the ground” who was “turning purple.”
“He had a pulse, I felt his neck. There was another nurse there with me and we were talking about doing rescue breathing — then at that moment we heard somebody say the medics are here.
“I got up and again someone came running past us and said ‘active shooter’ — I think we heard it three different times so everybody cleared the streets and ran back into the shops and hunkered down in the shops again.
“When we came back out the final time, the streets, there was just debris everywhere and it was pretty cleared up, people were being sent home,” Singsime said.
Fox News broke down some of the charges from his lengthy rap sheet.
From Fox News:
In July 2020, police charged him with three other felonies – including reckless endangerment and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He’s also listed as a Tier 2 registered sex offender in Nevada.
A background check from Wisconsin’s Department of Justice came back with over 50 pages of charges against Brooks stretching back decades.
In 1999 he received his first felony conviction for taking part in an aggravated battery – for which he received three years of probation, records show.
He was convicted of obstructing an officer in 2005 and 2003. In 2010 he pleaded no contest to felony strangulation charges.

CNN is already mopping up this terrorist attack – which is on video. We’ve seen it. It wasn’t a traffic accident. https://t.co/BIYljUZn6n pic.twitter.com/g8vL4res2S
