Another Dem Sees Writing On Wall, Will Not Run For Reelection To Congress In 2022
Nancy Pelosi suffered another blow when a Dem Rep from California joined a growing list of Dem politicians who see the writing on the wall and will not run for reelection.
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that she will not run again in 2022 becoming the latest Dem to get out while they still can. Whether they think they will lose or they believe Kevin McCarthy will be the next Speaker, all know the midterms will be brutal for the party
“Today, I’m announcing that I will not be a candidate for reelection to Congress in 2022,” Speier said.
“It’s time for me to come home,” she added. “Time for me to be more than a weekend wife, mother and friend.”
“There’s also another chapter or two in my book of life.
“And I intend to contribute to you, the communities I love on the Peninsula and in San Francisco, and the country that has given me so much,” she said.
From KRON4:
Speier represents California’s 14th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, which includes San Mateo County and a portion of San Francisco County.
She made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter.
“I lived, and I served. It’s been a remarkable journey that has surpassed my wildest dreams,” she said.
Speier is one of the survivors of the Jonestown Massacre, visiting the cult’s location in Guyana as a legislative aide to Rep. Leo Ryan, who was shot and killed before they could return in 1978.
