Panama Minister Says Biden Was Warned About Haitian Crisis: “We sounded the alarm when we should have”
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris continue to confound the country with their incompetence. Every day brings another example of how the people who bragged about their experience and qualifications were paper tigers.
Fancy resumes and lofty titles but when given the keys they drive the car straight into the ditch. It would be one thing, if as they try to claim with every debacle, that they were caught unaware, that the chaos surprised them.
But that is not the case. We are learning they get warned before every debacle and they still walk right into it oblivious to the real world.
We learned this week that Joe Biden did indeed receive warnings from military leaders that he was ordering a debacle in Kabul. He ignored the warnings and we saw the carnage.
Now we are learning from Panama foreign minister Erika Mouynes that Panama warned Biden about the Haitians crisis before it hit our shores.
Because they are coming from South American and they must pass through Panama to get here. Panama also offers medical aid to the migrants as the trip through the Darien Gap is rough.
So they know. And Biden knew because they told his administration.
But worse for Joe, Panama is not happy with Biden and his team for acting like they were surprised by the crisis and they are talking because “we sounded the alarm when we should have.”
Mouynes said:
“We’ve engaged with every single authority that we can think of, that we can come across, to say, ‘Please, let’s pay attention to this.
“When we receive them on the Panamanian side, they’re malnourished.
“The children are in terrible condition, so even getting them up to a healthy state takes time.
“We all have a role to play in this issue, and the regional approach is the correct approach.
“It is impossible for Panama to solve it on its own.
She wants the Biden administration to get their rear ends in gear and helped enforce and expand a plan coordinated with other countries in the region to deal with this.
“Let’s recognize that they all are heading toward the U.S.”

Why it matters: The worst may still be coming. Mouynes said there are as many as 60,000 migrants — mostly Haitian — poised to make their way north to the U.S.-Mexico border.
Panama is expecting more migrants to cross through the dangerous jungles of the Darién Gap this month than in all of 2019 — nearly 27,000, according to Panamanian government estimates provided to Axios.
Mouynes is calling on the U.S. to help enforce a plan coordinated with countries in the region, saying, ultimately, “Let’s recognize that they all are heading toward the U.S.”
The foreign minister wrapped up meetings Monday and Tuesday in Washington with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and members of Congress, among others.
Mouynes also said she was frustrated the Biden administration seemed caught off guard by the Haitian migrant crisis because "we sounded the alarm when we should have."
