Judge Cahill Rebukes Maxine Waters: “I will give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned”
In a shocking twist to the end of the Derek Chauvin trial, the presiding judge issued a harsh rebuke of Maxine Waters saying that her rhetoric could lead to an appeal that could overturn any guilty verdict.
In other words, Maxine’s rhetoric backfired. “I will give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned,” said Judge Peter Cahill to Derek Chauvin’s lawyer Eric Nelson after Nelson asked for a mistrial. “A congresswoman’s opinion really doesn’t matter a whole lot,” the judge added.
Nelson said the massive amount of publicity should be cause for a mistrial saying “the jury has despite all best efforts has been bombarded with information relevant to this case.”
“It’s impossible to stay away from it unless you literally shut off your phone, shut off your TV, and shut off your computer — no such instructions have been given,” Nelson said.
“I’m going to fight with all of the people who stand for justice,” Waters said. “We’ve got to get justice in this country and we cannot allow these killings to continue.”
Waters said she was “hopeful” Derek Chauvin would be convicted of murder but said that if he isn’t, “we cannot go away.”
If Chauvin is acquitted Maxine said:
“We’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.”
“We’ve got to fight for justice,” said.
“This is a very difficult time in the history of this country,” Waters said. “We have to let people know that we are not going to be satisfied unless we get justice in these cases.”

“We’re looking for a guilty verdict” in Derek Chauvin’s trial for the police killing of George Floyd, where deliberations will begin next week, she said.

The judge in the Chauvin trial just said this to the defense after the case was given to the jury for deliberations: “I’ll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned…”
