After Stacey Abrams lost her bid to become Georgia governor in 2018, something strange happened. The woman who was previously in the red became a millionaire. She started appearing on TV and became, oddly enough, a darling of the liberal elite. She raised so much cash, she decided to run for governor again.
And lost by a larger margin than before. But another odd thing just happened. Abrams raised a reported $100 million for her 2022 Georgia race. That’s not chump change. But apparently, all that money is gone. And the beloved liberal icon (to some) can’t even pay her staff.

Abrams lost by almost 299,000 votes to Kemp, who also trounced her in the 2018 gubernatorial election by almost 55,000 votes.
Just in time for Christmas! Abram’s campaign had $100 million cash on hand. Yet now, she owed vendors over $1 million and “slashed” checks for her 180 full-time employees. What?
Why does she still have staffers at this point? Shouldn’t her campaign have shut down the minute she lost? At least that would have given these folks time to find new jobs before the new year. But Abrams strung them along for another month, only to short-change them just before January.
Where did all the money go? We know Abrams is worth millions herself. Why can’t she dip into her fortune and pay her staff? Sure, they helped her lose (really, she helped herself), but they still did work for her, right?
But that’s how corrupt politics are. Nobody wants to use their money to run a campaign. Abrams is happy to waste other people’s money. But when that runs out–it’s tough luck for the people she hasn’t paid.
And now that her political dreams are dashed, she doesn’t have anyone else to turn to for cash. It’s possible that these vendors and staff will resort to the courts to get what’s owed them.
