Trump Reacts to Testimony That Clinton Spread Russia Allegations: ‘Where Do I Get My Reputation Back?’
Bombshell revelations during the trial of a Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer reveal the former First Lady authorized spreading Trump lies.
Special Prosecutor John Durham was appointed by then-Attorney General William Barr during the waning days of the Trump administration. Durham was tasked with investigating the origins of a smear campaign that alleged ties between the Donald Trump campaign and Russian officials. The current trial against former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann in Washington, D.C., is the first one in the docket that may lead to bigger fish being netted.
Sussman is being tried in a Washington, D.C., federal court on a sole count of lying to the FBI. In a furious effort to dilute damning testimony from former FBI General Counsel James Baker, defense lawyers called other campaign officials as witnesses. That backfired when Clinton’s 2016 campaign manager Robby Mook was cross-examined by prosecutors.
Mook testified Clinton was informed that dubious claims about Trump Organization ties to a Russian bank were going to be passed to a reporter. Prosecutors in Sussmann’s trial asked Mook if Clinton approved providing the data to media.
“She agreed,” he responded.
Former President Donald Trump reportedly blew his stack when he heard about that testimony. It pretty much proves the former First Lady was behind the lies that dogged his candidacy and then his administration.
“This is one of the greatest political scandals in history,” Trump told Fox News Saturday. “For three years, I had to fight her off, and fight those crooked people off, and you’ll never get your reputation fully back.”
“Where do I get my reputation back?” Trump repeated.
Trump noted that the time law enforcement and intelligence community resources spent investigating him and his 2016 campaign staff distracted from what “could have been a real danger with Russia.”
According to a Fox News report, declassified notes from then-CIA Director John Brennan outlined a briefing provided to then-President Obama on July 28, 2016. The heavily redacted document noted Clinton’s purported “proposal from one of her foreign policy advisers to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by the Russian security service.”
The information was properly forwarded to the FBI in a Counterintelligence Operational Lead, and to the attention of then-FBI Director James Comey and then-Deputy Assistant Director of Counterintelligence Peter Strzok on Sept. 9, 2016, according to the report.
The CIA memo to Comey and Strzok reportedly outlined a discussion about Clinton’s approval of a plan to allege collusion between Trump and Russian hackers hampering U.S. elections. The alleged purpose of the plan was distracting the public from the former First Lady’s use of a private email server.
