Mike Pence Turns On Donald Trump At Dinner, Says He “Endangered My Family” And “History Will Hold Donald Trump Accountable”
Mike Pence unloaded on former President Donal Trump at the Gridiron Club Dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. Pence told a few jokes, mocked Transportation Secretary Buttigieg, and said history will hold Trump accountable.
Pence said: “President Trump was wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable.
“Make no mistake about it, what happened that day was a disgrace. And it mocks decency to portray it any other way. It was not, as some would have you believe, tourists visiting the Capitol.
“Tourists don’t injure 140 police officers by sightseeing. Tourists don’t break down doors to get to the speaker of the House.”
Pence made some jokes too:
“Pete is the only person in human history to have a child and everyone else gets post-partum depression,” Pence said Pence of Buttigieg taking “maternity leave” during a crisis.
“I read that some of those classified documents they found at Mar-a-Lago were actually stuck in the president’s Bible,” Pence joked about Trump. “Which proves he had absolutely no idea they were there.”
“I mean, he’s never called me a low-energy moron. Not yet. Honestly, I learned a lot working beside Donald Trump, like about subpoenas for instance.”
“I always wanted to be the bad boy, the rebel type, the hell-raiser. You know, someone like Mitt Romney,” Pence joked.
Pence said of the news media:
“I don’t deny that you infuriate me, and I’m sure I infuriate you, but I genuinely value what you do to keep us a democracy.
“For what you do to preserve and strengthen this great democracy, you have my heartfelt thanks, and I know the thanks of a grateful nation. Thanks for what you do to preserve freedom.”
