Major Blue State Hit with Secession Demand – Now 11 Counties Want to Abandon Oregon and Join Idaho
As the gap between Right and Left grows, we’re starting to see some drastic action. Some Americans simply believe they can’t be around those who share radically different views.
This goes double in states that lean heavily in one direction. And that’s why Conservative residents in Oregon have had it with the far-left agenda, and want to join a neighboring state.
We’re talking about a historic border change — and it actually has a chance of happening.
While Oregon has been a leftist bastion for decades, rumblings of a “red wave” have been growing fast. For example, Republican gubernatorial challenger Christine Drazan now leads in the polls.
Additionally, some residents are so unhappy with the condition of their state that they’ve talked about seceding.
Earlier this year, 9 counties in eastern Oregon said they’d support redrawing the state’s borders so they could become part of Idaho. Now, 2 more counties are urging lawmakers to make the move.
As Matt McCaw, spokesman for the Greater Idaho movement told Fox News:
It makes more sense for Eastern Oregonians to get state-level governance coming from Idaho, where they share their values, share their culture, share their politics, than it does to be governed by Western Oregon.
In fact, the push to secede began 3 years ago. And for it to ultimately succeed, both the state legislatures of Oregon and Idaho would have to approve it. The U.S. Congress would as well.
For those unfamiliar with the state, the western side of Oregon leans way left; this includes the cities of Portland and Eugene.
But on the eastern side, it’s quite different. However, because the eastern side has many more voters, they always dictate the entire state’s ideology.
Those in the eastern part are sick of the whole situation, though, and they find Idaho very attractive. The Greater Idaho movement is gaining lots of steam, and as they say on their website:
This has led to a ruling party that ignores eastern Oregon because none of our legislators are in the ruling party…
But in Idaho, our representatives would be part of the majority. 80% of the Idaho legislature is Republican, and mostly rural.
The site adds that Oregon’s school curriculum teaches “radical theories on race, gender, sexuality, and anti-Americanism,” and also cited Idaho’s COVID mandates lasting only “weeks, not two years.”
Lastly, the movement says: “We’re not leaving Oregon; northwestern Oregon left us.”
McCaw said they’ll keep pushing to get more counties on the ballot, and now it’s time for the “legislature to pick up the ball and start this discussion.”
And he finished by saying that by 2024, Oregon could have a whole new border. That would be a momentous event, and one the U.S. hasn’t seen in many decades.
