Chicago Democrat Just Got Sentenced – Former State Rep. Arroyo Lands Behind Bars for Almost 5 Years
You don’t have to look far to find corrupt local politicians. And more often than not, they have a “D” at the end of their name.
Most of the time, however, they never face the music. Crooked politicians often manage to worm their way out of the consequences.
But not this time.
From WTTW:
Former Illinois state Rep. Luis Arroyo, who last year pleaded guilty to a bribery scheme in which he offered a member of the Illinois Senate monthly payments to support a bill that sought to legalize sweepstakes machines, has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison…
“You took bribes, you corrupted yourself, you corrupted the political process,” the judge said. “You tried to corrupt the law itself. You tried to change Illinois for a corrupt reason. … What you did was a frontal assault on the very idea of representative government. The public did not get what they deserve.”
Wow. Luis Arroyo had been found guilty of a bribery scheme. He tried to offer a member of the Illinois Senate payments to support a bill.
He was found guilty and convicted. And now, he will serve 5 years in federal prison.
We shouldn’t be surprised to find a corrupt politician in Illinois. Sadly, the Chicago swamp has poisoned the once-proud, conservative state.
The gangland has seeped into the rest of the state. We find people in their state legislature pulling schemes like this.
More often than you’d expect.
But this time, the man is about to face justice. We can’t always say that about crooked lawmakers.
We’d like to think that this episode will teach other would-be crooks not to even try it.
But that won’t be the case. There will always be slimy people trying to exploit the government.
The only thing stopping them are citizens who demand justice.
