Michigan Dems Say Parents Shouldn’t Have Say In Kids Education, Delete Post After Backlash: “The client of the public school is not the parent, but the entire community, the public”
The Democratic Party in Michigan just made an awful blunder at the worst time handing a huge political gift to the GOP. But this is no ordinary political gift, this is the type of gift that will keep on giving all the up to and right through the critical midterm elections.
The Dems are reeling from a series of defeats at the national level. The incompetence shown on a daily basis by the White House is staggering and has caught the nation by surprise because Biden had been VP for 8 years.
At the state level, the Dem Party is doing even worse. In the recent Virginia election, the GOP swept all the top jobs in a blue state and it was not close. One of the main reasons, if not the main reason this blue state turned red, was education. And the Michigan Dem Party just joined the Virginia Dems and slammed the idea that parents should have a say in what public schools teach their kids.
This will come back to haunt them in 2022 just as the changes they made in Virginia cost them in 2021.
James Hohmann of the Washington Post wrote, “Efforts to lower academic standards and scale back educational opportunities in the name of racial equity are backfiring on liberals from coast to coast, including in the bluest big cities in America.

“Eliminating gifted and talented programs has become fashionable on the left, based on well-intentioned desires to close the achievement gap for African American and Latino students, but it’s alienating many parents — as well as graduates — who prospered under higher standards.
“Throwing less-prepared students into classes with motivated children forces teachers to reduce the rigor of lesson plans so that everyone can keep up….
“The Virginia governor’s race shows the issue’s potency. While much has been made of Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin’s emphasis on critical race theory, the Republican also promised to fight against weakening standards for magnet schools.
“He said he would push for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a top-flight school in Fairfax County, to revert to a solely merit-based admission process. Last year, the local school board eliminated an entrance exam for the school and told reviewers to instead consider “experience factors,” such as a child’s socioeconomic background,” he wrote.
So you would assume the Dem Party would change their tune, learn from the voters before what happened in Virginia happens across the country. But you would be wrong. A Saturday post made by the Michigan Democrats on their official Facebook page said:
“Not sure where this ‘parents-should-control-what-is-taught-in-schools-because-they-are-our-kids’ is originating, but parents do have the option to send their kids to a hand-selected private school at their own expense if this is what they desire.”
“The purpose of public education in public schools is not to teach kids only what parents want them to be taught. It is to teach them what society needs them to know. The client of the public school is not the parent, but the entire community, the public.”
The Michigan Democratic Party later deleted that post and added a new statement:
“We have deleted a post that ignored the important role parents play—and should play—in Michigan public schools. Parents need to have a say in their children’s education, end of story.
“The post does not reflect the views of Michigan Democrats and should not be misinterpreted as a statement of support from our elected officials or candidates.”
You heard it here first, folks! @MichiganDems are ready to indoctrinate your children with what “society needs them to know.”

Does anyone want to tell them #SchoolChoice was a major issue that led to Republican @GlennYoungkin’s victory in VA? 🤔
