Tom Cotton To AG Garland: “Thank God you are not on the Supreme Court, you should resign in disgrace, Judge”
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) called out Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday over the Justice Department’s efforts to crack down on violent threats against school boards.
The two men went back and forth with Garland denying Cotton’s accusations before Tom ended the debate and told Garland to resign in disgrace. “This testimony, your directive, your performance is shameful,” Cotton said. “Thank god, you’re not on the Supreme Court. You should resign in disgrace, Judge.”
“This memorandum is not about parents being able to object in their school boards,” Garland said. He added: “They are protected by the First Amendment, as long as there are no threats of violence, they are completely protected.
“So parents can object to their school boards, about curriculum, about the treatment of their children, about school policies, all of that is 100% protected by the First Amendment and there is nothing in this memorandum contrary to that.
“We are only trying to prevent violence against school officials.”
Cotton said about the economy on Fox News today:
“It’s amazing that Joe Biden thinks the economy is on the right track. Just goes to show how out of touch he and the Democrats are.
“They probably haven’t spoken to folks who are paying three and four dollars a gallon to fill up their tank, or to families who are stretching their budgets each week just to pay for higher prices at the grocery store, and look what they’re trying to do now: add another $2 trillion of spending to this economy.
“Look what they want to spend it on. They want to give welfare benefits to millions of illegal aliens at a time when we have a crisis at our southern border, or they want to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on fanciful green energy programs.
“It’s just going to cause you to pay more for your gasoline or pay more for electricity going into the winter months. Joe Biden and the Democrats are out of touch.
“They’re part of the problem we have in the country right now with the economy, and their plans will only make it worse,” he said.
