Ex Dem Senator Barbara Boxer Assaulted, Robbed In Oakland: ‘Shocking and so unsuspected, you just don’t imagine that would happen, it shakes you up’
Former Dem Sen. Barbara Boxer was assaulted and robbed in broad daylight on the streets of a major California city yesterday proving again the Dems are a failed brand. Boxer is 80 years old and had just purchased a new iPhone.
She was shoved from behind in Oakland, California, yesterday while the assailant stole her cell phone. She described the scene in harrowing detail saying:
“Then the driver of the car jumped out and started to come at me and come behind me, and at that point I knew I was in trouble. When I saw the guy coming out of the car, coming at me, I started to run away across the street. And he shoved me really, really hard on the shoulder with one hand, and with the other, he put it around my waist and grabbed my phone.
“He ran toward the car. I was standing and shaking and I just said to them, ‘Why would you do that to a grandmother? I need to call my grandkids.’ He jumped in the car and sped away.
“I told police this was so obviously planned, they were going around looking for someone who was very vulnerable.
“It just was so planned and the guy knew what he was doing. He hit me so hard. He never said word one. If he had said, ‘Give me your phone or else,’ I would have given my phone. He didn’t have to shove me.”
“It was shocking and so unsuspected. You just don’t imagine that would happen. It shakes you up.
“I want to make that clear — he pushed me hard, I did not fall down. I was not badly hurt. I was just extremely shaken.
“I love Oakland, I do love it, and I’m really, really sad.
“Because really, going after a 5-foot-tall grandma with gray hair walking down the street talking on a phone? They had no idea I was a senator.
“To me, it just brings home everything I’ve worked for. We need good policing, we need community policing, we need a lot of it and we also need, absolutely, hope and opportunity for young people. These are young people finding they can get a lot of money for this phone, hundreds of dollars for this phone,” she said.
A message on her Twitter account said:
“Earlier today former Senator Barbara Boxer was assaulted in the Jack London Square neighborhood of Oakland. The assailant pushed her in the back, stole her cell phone and jumped in a waiting car. She is thankful that she was not seriously injured.”
NBC News reported, “Oakland police said a strong-arm robbery that occurred on Third Street around 1:15 p.m. is under investigation but did not identify the victim in a statement.
Jack London Square — on Oakland’s south waterfront, next to Alameda — is an entertainment district about 6 miles from the Oakland Athletics’ ballpark.”
