Trump Puts Squeeze On Liz Cheney, Will Meet Her Challengers Next Week Before Endorsing So She Faces One Person In Primary
Former President Donald Trump just made his first big move to sink Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) in her upcoming primary fight. Trump announced that he will meet with her primary challengers at his New Jersey golf club next week before he makes his critical endorsement in the race.
Trump wants only one candidate in the primary race so Cheney does not split the vote and sneak by with a victory. The issue is everyone knows the winner of the primary is a lock to win the general election. So unless the winner is terrible at politics, they could be in Congress for many years with a reliably red seat. No one wants to give that up so Trump will have to convince them.
Trump said: “Paying close attention to the Wyoming House Primary against loser RINO Liz Cheney. Some highly respected pollsters tell me she’s toast in Wyoming. This is a ‘hot’ race with some very interesting candidates running against her. Remember though, in the end, we just want ONE CANDIDATE running against Cheney.”
“I’ll be meeting with some of her opponents in Bedminster next week and will be making my decision on who to endorse in the next few months. JUST ONE CANDIDATE. Thank you,” he added.
The Hill reports that Cheney: “Raised nearly $1.9 million in the second quarter of the year, far outpacing any of her primary challengers.
“Bouchard, by comparison, raised about $213,000 between April 1 and June 30, according to his filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), while Gray’s campaign pulled in about $221,000.
“Another challenger, former Laramie County GOP Chair Darin Smith, raised $171,000.”
Cheney remained defiant saying:
“The people of Wyoming are gonna have a very clear choice between somebody who is loyal to the Constitution and somebody whose claim is loyalty to Donald Trump, and I’m confident that people will make the right decision,” Cheney said.

54%. That’s the share of the vote garnered by Wyoming State Sen. Anthony Bouchard, one of the most prominent candidates in the race, in a poll conducted by Trump-aligned pollster John McLaughlin in January. Cheney garnered just 21% in the survey.
