Texas Just Gave Biden A Direct Border Order – Gov. Abbott Tells Joe To Return All Land The Feds Took To Build The Wall
As the border situation worsens, some southern states have decided to take matters into their own hands. For example, Texas has announced they plan to build a border wall of their own.
Governor Greg Abbott recently revealed a $1 billion investment in border security, and much of that might go towards construction of a new barrier.
However, he needs the Biden administration to do one thing first.
The Texas Republican leader sent a letter to the President this week, and it held a very clear demand. Abbott isn’t looking for federal funds, though.
Instead, Abbott wants something back: the land the federal government seized to build the wall in the first place. He argues that they should no longer have it, as Biden has suspended construction.
And right now, all indications are that no further wall construction will happen during Biden’s term in office.
On the other hand, Texas absolutely needs that land back if they wish to build the wall themselves. And it sounds like Abbott is going to fight hard to make it all happen.
As he said in his letter (via Breitbart):
I write now to demand that you immediately return to Texans any land taken by the federal government but not used for building a border wall.
The federal government used condemnation powers to take property from Texans for the purpose of building a border wall.
Once you took office, however, your Administration made clear the federal government will not move forward with building the border wall at this time.
It does appear to be a common sense issue on the surface.
After all, if the federal government is no longer going to build a wall on that land, what do they need the land for? Shouldn’t they return ownership to the state of Texas?
It’s impossible to know how President Biden will respond (or if he responds at all), but Gov. Abbott won’t be sitting on his hands.
While he waits a reply from Washington D.C., he’s going to push forward with his plans, and that includes utilizing state and donated private property:
We will look first at using state property and donated private property.
We will also visit with Texans whose land was taken by the federal government to determine if they will allow the State of Texas to build a wall on their land.
Gov. Abbott joins many southern state leaders in their frustration with how the border situation has been handled in 2021.
Since Joe Biden took office, the surge against the U.S./Mexico border has intensified, and conditions at detention centers have declined. DHS has also announced 20-year highs in arrests and encounters.
Texas is sick of having to constantly defend their border, with little help from the current administration.
That’s why they’re taking steps on their own. As Gov. Abbott concluded in his letter:
Your immigration policies are making Texas ‘ground zero’ for a dramatic influx of unlawful immigrants, but all of America will suffer from the flood of dangerous drugs, human traffickers, and convicted criminals that may cause harm in other states after entering through Texas.
By immediately returning any Texas property that can be used to build a border wall, you will enable the State of Texas to work toward a more secure border that keeps not just Texans, but all Americans, safer.
Right now, the border situation remains a top concern for many millions of Americans.
And unless they start seeing more action taken by Biden and his staff, it’s likely that a big chunk of the country will support what Gov. Greg Abbott is doing in Texas.
Key Takeaways:
- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott just sent a letter to President Joe Biden.
- Abbott demands the federal government return all land seized to build the border wall.
- He contends that if the Biden admin won’t use that land for construction, it should be returned to Texas.
