Mitch McConnell Checkmates Nancy Pelosi, Calls Her Bluff On Impeachment Delay Tactic
Mitch McConnell just called Nancy Pelosi’s bluff and put her squarely in her place. Pelosi is known as a ruthless and effective player in the bureaucracy of the swamp.
But McConnell, for all his establishment faults, is every bit the match for Pelosi in this old Washington game.
Pelosi, of course, forgets she gave up all her leverage when she held that vote – it is for Mitch McConnell and Mitch alone to decide how quickly and in what fashion the Senate vindicates Trump.
That Nancy Pelosi thought she could try to blackmail Mitch is stunning. Mitch told a few reporters today that he was in “no hurry” to hold the trial and that he agreed with Pelosi – the case is so weak we may not even have a trial.
“It’s beyond me how the Speaker and Democratic leader in the Senate think withholding the articles of impeachment and not sending them over gives them leverage,” Mitch said.
“Frankly, I’m not anxious to have the trial. If she thinks her case is so weak she doesn’t want to send it over, throw me into that briar patch.”
“The prosecutors are getting cold feet in front of the entire country and second-guessing whether they even want to go to trial,” he said according to The Hill.
“They said impeachment was so urgent that it could not even wait for due process but now they’re content to sit on their hands. It is comical.”
“I would anticipate an almost partisan outcome in the Senate,” he said warning Pelosi that heads she loses and tails Mitch wins.
“We cannot name managers until we see what the process is on the Senate side,” Pelosi said.
“So far, we haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us. We are hoping it will be fairer, and when we see that, we’ll appoint managers.”
